Each year, all EA staff have a choice about their leave.
As a result of all the hard work put in by thousands of union members during last year’s campaign, EA staff now have more choices when it comes to taking extra leave from Crown.
What are my choices for more annual leave?
Unchanged choices for annual leave:
Options 1 & 2 remain unchanged from the old EA. You can still choose to elect four weeks with 25% loading or 5 weeks without.
New choice to spread your leave over an extra week or two of leave:
Option 3 & 5 mean that all EA staff can chose to spread five weeks leave (without loading) over an extra week. Staff who have more than two years’ service can chose to spread it over two extra weeks.
New choice to purchase an extra week or two through your pay:
Options 4 & 6 mean all EA staff can choose to spread the purchase of an extra week through their fortnightly pay and spread over the year. Staff with more than two years’ service can elect to purchase two weeks and spread them out over the year.
If you choose to take ‘purchase leave’ then this leave can be taken as if it was normal annual leave. If it is not used, it will be cashed out and given back to you at the end of each financial year.
What are my choices with public holidays?
Part-time & full-time employees can elect how they are paid for working a public holiday. You can choose to be paid at the ordinary rate and bank the rest as time-in-lieu.
Full-time employees can elect how they are paid when their RDO falls on a public holiday. You can choose to bank the day as time-in-lieu rather than be paid it straight away.
If you do not use your time-in-lieu by 1 March each year then it will be rolled into your annual leave as of the 1 April each year.
When will this apply by?
The election will be effective from the 1 April 2014 until the 31 March 2015. Accessing your purchased leave will be effective from 1 July 2014.
When do I have to decide?
You have until Sunday 16 March to decide which option you prefer.
What happens if I don’t make a decision?
For annual leave if you do not choose an option then you will receive the default of 4 weeks annual leave with 25% loading.
For public holidays you will receive the default for part-time & full-time employees of being paid double time for working a public holiday. For full-timers whose RDO falls on a public holiday you will receive the day as ordinary rate in your fortnightly pay.
