Meeting #8: One week for a better offer

On Thursday your Casino Union bargaining team reported back to management the message that was unanimously voted up in the all staff meetings: we will not accept an offer that does not include fair pay and recognition for our weekend work. 2.5% (or an extra 75c per hour) for a company making record profits is substandard.

Your Casino Union bargaining team drew on the examples from hundreds of workers who told of the precious moments they have sacrificed to work weekend nights at Crown. They also refuted the claim by management that our proposal was unsustainable, pointing out that rewarding staff has resulted in record profits and sustained growth for the company.

Casino management has until next meeting to improve the offer. Management has been put on notice. If they don’t come back with a pay offer by July 28 that recognises your sacrifice and rewards your work, casino staff will stand up, speak out and build community awareness for our campaign.

Hundreds of casino workers have already signed the petition supporting our plan and calling on management to improve their pay offer. We need to show the casino that we stand united and must be taken seriously.
